Join a voice channel and open the soundboard from your voice controls to play a sound. To add one, open Server Settings, go to Soundboard and upload a short MP3 or OGG clip.
How to play a sound
- Join a voice channel.
- Open the soundboard from your voice controls.
- Click a sound to play it for everyone in the channel.
Discord comes with default sounds, and servers can add their own. Favourite the ones you use most so they're easy to find. You can also set a keybind for the soundboard in your Keybinds settings.
How to use the soundboard on mobile
Join a voice channel in the app, open the voice panel and tap the soundboard button. Tap any sound to play it.
How to add sounds to the Discord soundboard on PC
- Open Server Settings and go to Soundboard. You need permission to manage the server's expressions.
- Click Upload Sound and pick your audio file.
- Trim it, give it a name and an emoji, and save.
How to add sounds on mobile
Open the server's settings in the app, find Soundboard and upload a sound from your phone's files. The same permission is needed.
Sound file limits
- Use MP3 or OGG files
- Keep clips short, around 5 seconds
- Files need to be small, under 512 KB
- The number of sound slots a server gets goes up with its boost level
Using sounds from other servers
With Nitro you can play custom sounds from any server you're in, as long as the server you're talking in allows outside sounds.
Discord soundboard not working?
- Make sure you're in a voice channel
- The server or channel may have turned off the Use Soundboard permission for your role
- If you're muted or deafened, unmute first
- Update or restart Discord if the button is missing

Don't spam sounds while someone's telling a story, keep loud sounds for the right moment, and read the room.
