Colored text shows on Discord for desktop and in the browser. The mobile app shows it as plain text.
How colored text works in Discord
Discord doesn't have a color button, but it does color text inside a code block marked ansi. Special ANSI escape codes inside the block set the color, background, bold and underline. The generator adds those codes for you, which is the hard part, because the escape character can't be typed on a normal keyboard.
Discord ANSI color codes
| Text colors | 30 gray, 31 red, 32 green, 33 yellow, 34 blue, 35 pink, 36 cyan, 37 white |
|---|---|
| Backgrounds | 40 dark blue, 41 orange, 42 marble blue, 43 turquoise, 44 gray, 45 indigo, 46 light gray, 47 white |
| Styles | 0 reset, 1 bold, 4 underline |
How to use it
- Type your text and pick a color, background and style for each part.
- Check the preview.
- Press Copy for Discord and paste it straight into a message.
The copied text starts with ```ansi and ends with ```. Keep those lines, or Discord won't color it.
Good uses for colored text
- Server rules and announcements that need to stand out
- Game night schedules and patch notes
- Highlighting a warning in red or a tip in green
