How Discord timestamps work
A Discord timestamp is a short code like <t:1791460800:R>. The number is a Unix timestamp, the number of seconds since January 1, 1970, and the letter at the end picks the style. When you send it, Discord turns it into a date or time, converted to each reader's own time zone.
All Discord timestamp formats
t | Short time, like 4:20 PM |
|---|---|
T | Medium time, like 4:20:30 PM |
d | Short date, like 04/20/2026 |
D | Long date, like April 20, 2026 |
f | Long date and short time, like April 20, 2026 at 4:20 PM (the default) |
F | Full date and short time, like Monday, April 20, 2026 at 4:20 PM |
s | Short date and short time, like 04/20/2026, 4:20 PM |
S | Short date and medium time, like 04/20/2026, 4:20:30 PM |
R | Relative time, like in 2 hours or 3 days ago |
How to use a timestamp in Discord
- Pick the date and time above.
- Copy the code for the style you want.
- Paste it into any message, announcement or event description and send it.
The exact look depends on each reader's language settings, so someone in the UK might see 20/04/2026 where someone in the US sees 04/20/2026. That's the point: everyone sees it the way they're used to.
What to use timestamps for
- Game night and movie night announcements
- Giveaway end times
- Raid, scrim and tournament schedules across time zones
- Countdowns with the relative style, like "starts in 3 hours"
Questions
What is the code for a Discord timestamp?
Type <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is a Unix timestamp in seconds and STYLE is one letter: t, T, d, D, f, F, s, S or R. Without a style letter, Discord uses f.
Do Discord timestamps work on mobile?
Yes. Timestamps show correctly in the Discord app on phones, desktop and the browser.
Why does my timestamp show the wrong time?
The Unix time was probably made in the wrong time zone. This generator uses your device's time zone, so pick the time as it is for you and Discord converts it for everyone else.
